Expat Tax Calendar
The US tax deadline for expats to file an individual tax return is different than for Americans at home. The calendar below lists this important deadline and other essential tax due dates for US expats and entrepreneurs abroad by month.
How to use this tax calendar
For each month, you see information about the tax due date, the tax event and the situation it applies to. This way, you can clearly see which dates apply to you and which ones don’t.
January
Fourth and final installment of quarterly estimated taxes
Self-employed, others with income where taxes are not withheld
February
File and pay all taxes to avoid penalites if last quarterly installment wasn't paid on Jan-15
Self-employed, others with income where taxes are not withheld
March
S-Corp and LLC tax returns
US entrepreneurs (incl foreign based)
Trust returns for trusts incl foreign trusts
US individuals with trusts, foreign trusts
April
Individual tax return due if residing in the US - if taxes are owed interest will accrue from this date (even for expats)
US residents, nationals, greencard holders, expats in low tax jurisdictions that have taxes due
C-Corp tax returns (starting 2017)
Foreign companies investing in US, foreign startups
First installment of estimated taxes
Self-employed, others with income where taxes are not withheld
FBAR reporting (starting 2017 for 2016 tax year)
Holders of foreign bank accounts with a combined balance of 10k or more
June
Individual tax return due if residing outside the US
US expats
Second installment of quarterly estimated taxes
Self-employed, others with income where taxes are not withheld
September
Late filing deadline for S-Corp and LLC if filed for an extension
